Summary
On September 29, 2021, members of the Emerson College chapter of Turning Point USA handed out stickers featuring a hammer and sickle with the caption “CHINA KINDA SUS.” According to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, several student groups pressured Emerson’s administration into suspending the Turning Point chapter pending the outcome of a conduct board investigation. Despite acknowledging that the stickers criticized the Chinese government and not its people, the investigation found the group responsible for violating the school’s “bias-related incident” policy and issued them a formal warning. In November, Emerson’s Vice President and Dean for Campus Life denied Turning Point’s appeal of the decision.
