Summary

The University of Florida decided to start enforcing a prohibition against indoor protests following a large student demonstration in October 2022 against the selection of U.S. Senator Ben Sasse as a finalist for the position of school president.

1,000 student demonstrators banged their firsts on windows, walls, and furniture during a forum with Senator Sasse. The discussion had to be moved online and shortened because of the disruption.

In response, the University’s current president announced the decision to prohibit protests inside campus buildings. The regulation has existed for two decades, but wasn’t enforced in recent years.
