Summary
Condoleezza Rice is a former secretary of state and national security advisor. In May 2014, Rice was invited to give the commencement address at Rutgers University. After weeks of protest, including the faculty council approving a resolution asking officials to rescind the invitation, Rice announced that she would no longer give her speech. The university’s president said that it stood “fully behind the invitation” but respected her decision not to participate.
