Summary
Chelsea Manning is a former Army private convicted of leaking classified information. On September 13, 2017, Harvard University announced its selection of Manning as one of its visiting fellows for the school’s Institute of Politics in 2017, but in the face of harsh criticism from former and current Pentagon officials, on September 15 it rescinded its offer to Manning. Harvard told Manning that she was still invited to speak on campus, but Manning declined the offer. After news that the invitation had been revoked became public, Manning tweeted that the institution was chilling “marginalized voices under CIA pressure.”
