Summary

Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) is a conservative student group with a chapter at the University of Texas at Austin (UT) campus. In November, 2013, the group scheduled a mock immigration sting where students were to be rewarded with a $25 gift card for “catching” undocumented immigrants. However, it cancelled the event over safety concerns and fear that UT officials would retaliate against them. Dr. Gregory J. Vincent, UT’s vice president for diversity and community engagement, said that if YCT went ahead with the immigration event it would be “willfully ignoring the honor code and contributing to the degradation of our campus culture.”
