Summary
In May 2025, Logan Rozos, a Black trans undergraduate student at New York University’s Gallatin School, delivered a commencement address condemning the violence in Palestine, calling it a “genocide” supported by U.S. policy. His speech received mixed reactions, with some audience members applauding and others criticizing his remarks.
Following the speech, NYU announced it would withhold Rozos’s diploma pending disciplinary action, accusing him of misusing his role as student speaker to express personal political views and violating university protocols that govern commencement speeches.
