Summary
Violeta Grigorescu was an adjunct professor of physics at the College of San Mateo, one of three community colleges within the San Mateo County Community College District. In 2011, Grigorescu was involved in an effort to preserve a green space on the College of San Mateo’s campus from being turned into a parking lot. Thereafter, various administrators allegedly engaged in a continuous pattern of discriminatory and retaliatory behavior towards Grigorescu.
On September 27, 2018, Grigorescu filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California against various university administrators, claiming § 1983 retaliatory harassment for exercise of First Amendment rights, race/national origin harassment and discrimination, age discrimination, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Grigorescu’s first and second amended complaints with leave to amend, permitting her to plead claims against only one administrator. On December 23, 2019, Grigorescu’s race-based termination claim was dismissed, but the sole defendant’s Motion to Dismiss her § 1983 claim was denied. This case is ongoing.
