Summary
Dr. Barry Mehler, a tenured history professor at Ferris State University, was placed on paid leave for a “profane” and “offensive” class introduction video that went viral on YouTube. Mehler filed suit against the University alleging violations of his First and Fourteenth Amendment Rights. In March, 2022, a US District Court denied Mehler’s request for a temporary injunction and temporary restraining order.
In March, 2022, Mehler and the University reached an out-of-court settlement which both parties allegedly are pleased with. Mehler is now retired.
