Summary

In an interview published in December 2021, Amy Wax was quoted as saying, among other things, that “the United States is better off with fewer Asians and less Asian immigration” because of their support for the Democratic Party. Following these and other alleged infractions of university policy, in January 2022 the Philadelphia City Council sent the university a letter calling for them to review Wax’s employment at the university; Penn Law initiated a sanctions process against Wax; Penn law students circulated a petition calling for her termination that garnered 2,500 signatures; and Penn’s Undergraduate Assembly passed a resolution calling for her termination partly on the basis of her “white supremacist” comments.
